I have my little crushes, mainly celebrities like Stella McCartney and Lea Michele, using their cloat to raise awareness amongst non-veg*ns. Then their are those people who are fueling veg*n culture, defying peoples’ conception of what is veg*n. (No, you don’t need eggs or dairy milk to bake a cake that makes other cakes pail.)
Kelly Peloza’s got a following. If you were to compare the veg*n subculture to the Beatniks, Kelly would probably occupy a space similar to Allen Ginsberg, maturing in the culture under the wings of more established names, with Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero serving a dual Kerouac role. She has a flare of her own, though.
With her cookbook and blog, she’s showing off her style. I just got hip to around summertime. However, sometimes people do seemingly simple things that stick in your mind.
Back in September Facebook said, “Kelly Peloza’s birthday is today.” Well, even in the digital sphere, it’s nice to wish someone a happy birthday. So I did. Next day FB notifies me of a comment. Kelly had messaged back thank you. As I looked, she’d done that for others too…she actually commented to nearly, if not all, the birthday wishes. Not one mass thank you, but individual thank yous. Now how classy is that!? As she gains friends and followers to come, that might not be possible again.
Check out her amazing creations on her Facebook for The Vegan Cookie Connoisseur and in her cookbook.
