Monetary Diet Plan

After I signed the bill for dinner last night, I did a mental calculation of how much I’d spent on food in a one week span. Between a birthday dinner, a trip to the Cinnamon Snail, pit stop to Whole Foods, a couple trips to the vending machine at work, and an ‘Oh, thank goodness the work week is over’ splurge meal at Wild Ginger last night, I decided I need to close my wallet.

There are so many amazing places to eat in NYC, but eating out is not only difficult on the bank account, but on the waist; it’s difficult to estimate the caloric content in meals and easy to be swayed and binge. If you’re in the same boat, here’s a video from Eco-Vegan Gal that might help. I’m planning to hop back on my fruits and veggies cart and hopefully the treadmill because better fuel = better performance and I’ve been kind of sluggish recently.

VegNews’ New York City Vegan Weekend on a Budget Checklist

Last June, Jasmin Singer of Our Hen House took a vegan tour of NYC on a budget for VegNewsTV. As I watched, I thought of all the places I had been to…Yay!…and that I hadn’t…Boo!. Here’s my checklist.

MoMA Museum of Modern Art (Midtown Manhattan) – On Fridays, it’s totally free until close.

Mamoun’s Falafel (West Village) – Singer visited the location on McDougall Street. I recently got to visit the one on St Marks. Yep. It’s a pretty good bite for a mere $2.50.

Marie’s Crisis Cafe (West Village) – Singer recommends you go late cause Broadway players are known to stop in.

Yoga To The People

Curly’s Vegetarian Lunch

MooShoes – From shoes, to bags, to books, and t-shirts, just drop by. They carry Herbivore t-shirts…”Bacon Had a Mom”…LOL…True story.

New York Tenement Museum

Blue Stockings

Viva Herbal Pizzeria – Great variety. Thick slices.

Lula’s Sweet Apothecary – PB&J ice cream is off the hook, but I’m sure you can tell by now that I’m partial to PB&J. Yummy sundaes and they carry GO MAX GO and RESCUE CHOCOLATE bars.

Personal additions: STOGO, Atlas Cafe

Terrace Bagel (Park Slope)

Brooklyn Botanical Gardens – Totally free Saturday mornings

Food Swings (Williamsburg) – Milkshakes are a yes. I love the Chick’n Cordon Bleu Sandwich. Nom nom nom. If you can’t make it to Lula’s…or you just want more…you can pick up pints of Lula’s Ice Cream here. Oh yeah.

Wild Ginger (Williamsburg) – Try the Bibimbap, Spinach Wonton Soup, and the cheese filled fried Wontons. My faves.

Vinnie’s (Williamsburg) – Just search this blog for Vinnie’s and you’ll know of my love. There is also a location in Greenpoint.

Champs Vegan Bakery (Williamsburg) – Been a few times. You can get eats and sweets there! I’m on board with pretty much anything PB&J. They did some remodeling a couple months back and added booths and a longer counter to sit and eat.

Atlantis Attic

Dunwell Doughnuts – You can get these babies at Champs in Williamsburg…but they now have their own storefront! Drop by, but be mindful they’re closed on certain days.

Pine Box Rock Shop – My friend Carl played there new stage a few months back! They carry a couple V-Spot empanadas I haven’t seen elsewhere. Go! Eat! Drink! Be a merry veg*n!

Personal additions: V-Spot, B.A.D. Burger
